When did the singular land mass (the dry land also known as Pangaea) Break into the seven continents of today?
Much speculation surrounds this subject. There are the “old earthers” – evolutionists, the “young earthers” – creationist and a garden variety of inbetweeners. Personally, I am a creationist ascribing to the literal 6-day creation as presented in Genesis chapters 1 and 2. I have a complete study of this subject in draft process.
The Flood of Noah’s day came about 1600 years after the Expulsion (of Adam and the woman from Eden.) The Flood was a cataclysmic even that flooded the dry land with the waters above the firmament and the waters under the earth. Form Noah we travel to the time of Abraham. In between we see the rise and fall of Nimrod’s Tower of Babel. Tracing the diaspora of the ancient Babylonians, we see in the record of lineage in the Bibe a person named Peleg.
At least in those days, children upon birth were given a name consistent with a significant event of the day. Peleg in the Hebrew means great quaking. Most would marginalize that to mean there was a localized earthquake at the time of Pelegs birth. I don’t think so. I believe this great quaking was world-wide. I believe this is the moment the Dry Land began to break up into the continents we recognize today.
Most earth scientists see plate tectonics, the movement of continental plates, as a linear event. I propose an alternate view.
Suppose there was a perfectly level straight 1100 mile track with not cracks, hills, bumps, absolutely no irregularities. And, suppose you had a three wheeled cart so designed that it would trace this 1100 mile track with absolute precision that no energy was lost due to direction correction or the turning of the wheels. The only point of contact of the cart to the track would be the nearly razor thin tread of the three wheels of the cart.
Challenge: how fast would you have to accelerate the cart with one burst of energy to make the cart travel 1100 miles in about 4000 years that at the end of that 4000 years it would still be moving at a rate of 1000 mm per year? This is the approximate distance between the most easterly tip of South America (Brazil) and the most westerly tip of Africa (Liberia). I worked several mathematical models on this . It cannot be linear, if so it would still be sliding at a rather rapid; it can’t be parabolic or hyperbolic since neither model offer a definitive starting point. Although there are many other mathematical models that could be considered only the logarithmic mathematical model fits these parameters the best.
As the cart travelled along the track, at first it would be moving at a fairly noticeable rate of about 10 miles per year. As time went on the cart by virtue of frictional drag of gravity, the cart would logarithmically slow down but would never stop. In practice, it would eventually come to a stop.
Another way to look at this is suppose you walked a 512 mile track with this condition: that when you have walked half of the course ahead of you, you stop for 24 hours; then you walk half of the new distance ahead of you then stop for 24 hours and continue to do so until you finally reached the end. So you would walk 256 miles then 24 hours, walk 128 miles then wait 24 hours, then 64 and 24 hours, 32 miles and 24 hours, 16 miles and 24 hours, 8 and 24, 4 and 24, 2 and 24, 1 and 24, 1/2 mile, then 1/4, then 1/8, 1/16, 1/32, 1/64th of a mile. Allowing for logarithmic deceleration provides the best explanation for a recent continental separation as we currently see. The greatest argument even creationists have with a Peleg Divide is they believe a world wide tsunami would occur. I agree, there would be a rather huge tsunami effect that would have spread from the Dry Land across the entire “singular” sea. With no land mass to interfere basic wave dynamics would essentially cancel the tsunami wave way out in the middle of this singular sea.
